Marshmallow…not just a yummy lolly
Marshmallow is much more than a squishy, sugary lolly. While todays version of a marshmallow is simply syrup and sugar, the natural form, Marshmallow Root (Althea officinalis), is a herb native to North Africa, Europe and West Asia and boasts some pretty impressive qualities. It is not only anti-inflammatory, it is healing and softening. Recent research has also been able to prove it is able to speed up the rate of cell regeneration.
This sweet, salty, mucilaginous (aka slippery, gooey), cool, moist herb is an excellent choice for warm, hot and dry skin conditions. It is also used as a dissolver of hardness like lumps and bumps in the skin.
